The goal of the Kentucky Wildcats’ trip to Baton Rouge today to play the LSU Tigers was to win on the road for the second straight game. The Cats added a terrible defeat to their record at the buzzer, falling 75-74, after having briefly appeared to be on the verge of a blowout victory.

The opening six minutes of tonight’s game saw the Cats revert to their track-meet style of play, which has characterized their play for the bulk of the season, following their outstanding defensive performance against Auburn on Saturday. Just one distinction? In fact, they managed to pick up the pace and slow down the LSU squad.

However, for a portion of the first half, the Cats uncharacteristically struggled to put the ball in the hoop. Kentucky, led by Antonio Reeves in the first half, gained some ground in the closing minutes of the half and led 36–27 going into the locker room.

Following a brilliant second-half performance by Kentucky, LSU overcame a 15-point deficit to take the lead for the most of the half.

Then Rob Dillingham made the decision to assume command. Willing the Cats back into the game, the Tigers won in the end thanks to a superb block and a poor bounce.
