JUST NOW: formal 4-star wolverine return and…

Linebacker Jaden Smith (6-3, 201) of West Charlotte, N.C., has committed to Kentucky after being released from his National Letter of Intent at Michigan.

 

Other schools that had been interested in Smith were Auburn, Florida State, Miami, NC State, USC, and Virginia Tech.

Following the dismissals of linebackers coach Charlie Partridge, defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, and Michigan head coach John Harbaugh, the Charlotte native decided to reopen his recruitment. Having previously made an offer to the linebacker back in March, UK was among the first colleges to enter the competition. His selection was heavily influenced by defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach Brad White, as well as defensive backs coach Chris Collins.

Soon later, when CatsPause.com chatted with him

“Coach Collins is someone I like. He will occasionally check in with me,” Smith said to CatsPause.com. “He is going to follow up with my mentor to make sure we are still meeting.” We get along well, me and him. I’ve enjoyed speaking with him thus far. He will start by discussing my day and my activities. After that, we’ll discuss my going up there and genuinely get into other topics.”

When the standout student enrolled with the Wolverines in December, West Charlotte head coach Sam Greiner had the following to say about him:
