Sunday Offering: Oklahoma in Contention for Handful of 2025 Prospects
In order to advance in the 2025 recruiting class, Brent Venables and crew have been quite active throughout the offseason.
The Sooners just found out they were in the running for many great junior prospects who might strengthen their already strong squad in the next cycle.
The Oklahoma football team inadvertently made a class of 2026 athletes available to the unwary eye on Friday. But as everyone familiar with college football knew, the Sooners extended an offer to Amari Sabb, a soon-to-be junior from Glassboro, New Jersey, who may have had other reasons in mind. With offers from the Michigan Wolverines, Alabama Crimson Tide, Georgia Bulldogs, Boston College Eagles, and Ole Miss Rebels, Sabb is clearly a top prospect. Nevertheless, Keon Sabb, his brother, who was formerly a commitment to current OU head coach Brent Venables while playing for the Clemson Tigers, declared on Friday that he intended to depart the Michigan Wolverines and use the transfer portal. The same day, Amari, his younger brother, received an offer from Oklahoma football.
In July 2021, Keon Sabb committed to Clemson. But the day after defensive coordinator Brent Venables departed to take a head coaching position with the Oklahoma Sooners, the defensive back announced his decommitment from the ACC school. Less than a month later, the elder Sabb signed a contract to play for the Michigan Wolverines.
In an attempt to sign Amari’s older brother Keon Sabb, the Sooners extended an offer to him. The youngest of the two, Amari, is a standout student at Glassboro High School in New Jersey and currently has five other high-end DI offers. Amari ran 48 times for 328 yards and five touchdowns last year, despite only being a sophomore. He also grabbed 16 passes for 173 yards and four scores. In defense, he had nine tackles and an interception.
Keon, the older Sabb, played for the Michigan Wolverines for the previous two seasons. In 2022, the former four-star prospect made four appearances in four different games. But he failed to record a statistic. Keon joined the national championship-winning Wolverines as a rotational starter at safety in the previous season. He participated in all 14 games and started five of them in the back end. Keon has 28 tackles, 0.5 sacks, seven passes defensed, two interceptions, and a score by the end of the 2023 season. He performed admirably throughout his team’s College Football Playoff championship run. In two games, he had seven tackles, two passes defensed, and one start.
