NRL Casualty Ward: Young taken to hospital; Brailey nursing hamstrin
Dom Young, an England winger, was injured in the neck during his Sydney Roosters debut against Manly in Gosford. He was then transported to the hospital.
Young, the NRL’s top scorer in 2023, left the field following an apparent crusher tackle that resulted in Sea Eagles forward Toafofoa Sipley being placed on report. Young scored a try in the Roosters 36-22 victory.
The former Knights player was rushed to the hospital for precautionary scans after being stretchered out of the ground while sporting a neck brace.
“He’s doing well. Roosters coach Trent Robinson clarified, “It’s just that when you’re dealing with the neck, you want to be precautionary there, so he’s just gone to the hospital to get a scan.”
“He was in excellent spirits, but they just want to keep it stable so we know what’s precisely wrong with it. He was good in there [the dressing room], talking, sitting up, and all that.
After the game, he was sent to the hospital wearing a neck brace. According to Roosters management, this was done as a precaution before the team’s Wednesday flight to Los Angeles, where they will play in the Round 1 at Allegiant Stadium.
Coach Adam O’Brien will evaluate Knights duo Jayden Brailey and Krystian Mapapalangi the following week before selecting his squad to play Melbourne in Fiji during Week 2 of the Pre-Season Challenge.
Recovering off a knee reconstruction, Brailey missed Newcastle’s 44-18 victory over Cronulla at Gosford on Saturday due to a small hamstring injury he sustained during training the previous week.
O’Brien stated, “We haven’t ruled Brails in or out for Fiji.”
“I won’t make a snap decision in the near future because of his history and the significance of this minor, lower-grade hamstring strain.”

More than anything, it’s me. I’m the one holding him back because it’s a major season and I can’t ignore his extensive injury history.”
During the game’s opening run, Mapapalangi took a head bump while attempting to stop Sharks forward Oregon Kaufusi, but O’Brien declared the young center to be “good” when they spoke afterward.
