BRAKING NEWS: bills QB announce to leave and….
The best pass rusher for the Buffalo Bills in 2023–2024 is not hiding the fact that, should the team fail to fulfill his demands in NFL free agency, he is more than happy to take his talents elsewhere in the offseason.
Leonard Floyd, an edge rusher, has quietly developed into one of the league’s most dependable players at applying pressure to quarterbacks over the last four seasons. The 31-year-old has recorded 39.5 sacks since 2020 and has twice recorded 10.5 sack seasons, one of which was in 2023.
It should come as no surprise that he will be seeking to make a big splash during the offseason after guiding the Buffalo Bills to sack leadership and an NFL Playoffs Divisional Round appearance. Floyd will undoubtedly speak with the Bills in an effort to secure a deal that will keep him in the team at least until the next season. But don’t expect the defensive standout to accept a contract that is anywhere close to what his agent believes he is worth on the open market.
When it comes to money, I always follow the money. Though it’s not how I would choose to be here. It is an enterprise. Earlier this week, while tidying his locker at the team’s facilities, Floyd declared, “I’m going wherever my agent feels like we get the most money from.”
Floyd’s chances of getting re-signed are poor because the Buffalo Bills are $50 million above the salary cap going into the offseason. Even if they take the required steps to go under the cap in order to bolster their squad, Floyd will likely get an offer from a team that needs a pass rush that the Bills are unable to match.
The Chicago Bears selected Floyd with the ninth overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. Before spending the next three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, where he was a member of their 2021 championship squad, he played four seasons in Chi-Town. Earlier this year, Floyd agreed to a $7 million, one-year contract with the Bills.
