BRAKING NEWS: The top DC is expected to be returning today and….

Although the Steelers are in the market for an offensive coordinator, it is unlikely that they will hunt for a new defensive coordinator in the offseason.

According to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writer Gerry Dulac, Austin is anticipated to rejoin the squad in 2024. After the Steelers’ season ended, Austin’s two-year contract expired, thus a new agreement will need to be negotiated soon.

Before Austin was appointed coordinator by the Steelers in 2022, he spent three years as a secondary coach and senior assistant. In his first season, the team’s point allowance rank was 10th; in the regular season of 2023, that ranking rose to sixth.

Although their yards allowed did take a turn for the worst, their total performance seemed to be sufficient to persuade the team to continue playing that way.
